GONE TOO SOON. CJ Perez is yet to play a single second in the UAAP, but there are already whispers of his return to the NCAA.
With Kiefer Ravena and Von Pessumal moving on, Katipunan Avenue was only looking forward to welcoming a big name like CJ Perez donning the blue and white.
As it’s turning out, however, Ateneo de Manila University will have to keep looking for its next big name to don the blue and white.
With earlier reports naming him to be among seven players in the Blue Eagles pool to fall short of the school’s grade requirement and to be ineligible for the upcoming UAAP season, it looks like Perez’ time in Katipunan will be over before it even began.
Sources have shared that Perez is in discussions with Lyceum of the Philippines University for a transfer that would reunite him with coach Topex Robinson. Robinson coached Perez in San Sebastian College-Recoletos before the former moved to LPU and the latter went to Ateneo.
ABS-CBN Sports tried to get in touch with Perez, but he is yet to respond as of press time.
For his part, however, the mentor of the Pirates said of the development, “Until I see him there in practice, maybe that’s the time I could (talk about it).”
Robinson shared that he and his former ward with the Golden Stags have always kept in touch even after they parted ways. This relationship is a reason why the transfer has a probability of pushing through as he said, “Again, I hope that the basketball gods will be good to me. Sino bang may ayaw kay CJ, he’s a born winner.”
He then continued, “So hopefully, he’s gonna be a Pirate soon.”
