Letran's 'Mr. Intangibles' Luib: ‘Bonus na lang yung stats'
OFF THE RECORD. Mcjour Luib's fulfillment comes from doing the things that don't appear on the stat sheet.

All throughout their championship run a year ago, Colegio de San Juan de Letran boasted of a pressure-packing defense that caused nightmares for their opponents.

The same cannot be said at the other end as, more often than not, it was bailout shots near the end of the shot clock by Mark Cruz or Kevin Racal that kept the offense afloat.

With those two no longer Knights, another name now has to keep the same offense afloat. The logical choice would be Rey Nambatac – former NCAA Juniors MVP and in the top three in terms of scoring for the team for all of his three seasons.

Or, it could be someone else. Someone like fifth-year pointman Mcjour Luib who surprised just about everybody by no longer being gun-shy in the 2016 Filoil Flying V Preseason.

The results Luib received varied, but it nonetheless signaled that Letran was doing something about their most obvious weakness. “Kinausap ako ni coach Jeff (Napa). Sabi niya, sa offense, tulad last year, kelangan ko lang i-deliver sa teammates ko yung bola,” Luib shared with ABS-CBN Sports.

He then added, “Pero kung open ako, pwede ko namang itira.”

Never known for his shooting, or even his scoring in general, the captain of the Knights is now being looked upon to deliver some points that would make up for the around 25 points they lost with the graduation of Cruz and Racal.

Don’t expect the stocky court general to veer away from doing the things that makes him one of the, if not the most, league’s most underrated players, however. Asked if he will remain as the defending champions’ “Mr. Intangibles,” he responded, “Sana ‘Mr. Intangibles’ pa rin nga ako. Sana makuha ko pa yung sa depensa, sa hustle, sa leadership lalo kasi ako yung pinakamatagal na rito.”

In the end, Luib expressed that he wouldn’t mind if none of his numbers went up – even though this is already his final year in college. As he put it, “’Di naman sa kuntento na ako, pero bonus na lang yung stats e.”

He then continued, “Ang gusto ko lang talaga, maka-contribute at mabigyan ng chance ang teammates.
