CLUTCH. Remy Morada delivered all of his points when EAC needed it most - in the final frame and closing out a contest.
It seemed like Jorem Morada could only make shots in the clutch moments of the game on Sunday at the San Juan Arena.
Scoring all of his 14 points in the fourth quarter, Morada lifted the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals over the Lyceum of the Philippines University Pirates, 64-57, for their first win in the NCAA 92 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
The Generals took control from the get-go, with Hamadou Laminou going for nine points and seven rebounds to give EAC a commanding 19-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Come the final frame, however, LPU big man Mike Nzeusseu, who was overpowered by Laminou in the opening quarter, came alive to bring the Pirates ahead by four points, 44-40 with six minutes to play.
Fortunately for coach Ariel Sison, his Generals were able to answer with a run of their own. Morada came alive in the dying minutes, scoring nine straight points, including two clutch three pointers in the final two minutes of the game to put EAC ahead, 63-55.
Even after a tumultuous start to the game, Morada said the trust given to him by his new coach brought him confidence to keep shooting. As he put it, “Ang sabi sa akin ni coach, ’Sige, gawin mo lang yung gusto mo,’ malaki ang tiwala niya sa akin.”
