THE NEW GUY. Davon Potts has done nothing but impress in his first two games for San Beda.
Throughout the preseason, first-year player Davon Potts was an enigma for San Beda College – failing to find his shooting stroke.
Now through two games in the NCAA 92 Men’s Basketball Tournament, he has wasted no time showing off his touch and making a name for himself.
The Filipino-American’s latest exploit came on Tuesday at the San Juan Arena, scoring seven straight points inside the last three minutes to rescue the Red Lions from the upset ax of Lyceum of the Philippines University, 91-86, on Tuesday at the San Juan Arena.
San Beda was under siege all game long and found themselves behind, 81-83, inside the last three minutes before Potts produced a personal 7-2 run – all from jumpers – to retake an 88-85 advantage for them.
With 57 ticks on the clock, the Pirates were only add one more point to their tally while Donald Tankoua sealed the deal for the Lions with another midrange shot.
Potts poured on 19 points in all to better his debut output of 16 points. Tankoua and Javee Mocon merged for 21 points and 21 rebounds to help San Beda improve to 2-0.
Upstart LPU was keeping in step with the modern-day dynasty, standing on even ground with them at 64-all after three quarters. Unfortunately, they ran out of gas in the last three minutes to suffer back-to-back losses to open the season.
Wilson Baltazar showed the way for them with 24 points.
