NO DOUBT. San Beda had no difficulty dispatching CSB and rising to first-place.

For all of four minutes on Friday at the San Juan Arena, College of St. Benilde was right there with San Beda College.

Just like that, however, the Red Lions turned it on and weren’t going to be stopped en route to a 27-point beating of the Blazers, 90-63, for their fourth consecutive victory to start the NCAA 92 Men’s Basketball Tournament.

The contest was close with the Blazers only chasing down a one-point deficit at the 6:04 mark of the opening period until Davon Potts spearheaded a 17-0 surge that sent San Beda ahead, 28-10. They wouldn’t look back from there and even pushed up their lead to its highest when the buzzer sounded.

Four Lions were in double-digits led by Potts who had 19 points to go along with one rebound, one assist, and one steal. “This only shows we got a deep team and we got players who are ready when it’s their time,” a satisfied coach Jamike Jarin said.

Javee Mocon bounced back from his substandard outing the last time around and stuffed the stat sheet by collecting eight points, six rebounds, seven assists, and three steals. Now at 4-0, San Beda is alone atop the leaderboard. (EDITOR’S NOTE: Mapua is playing EAC as of press time. A Mapua win will tie them with San Beda in first-place.)

For CSB, it was Clement Leutcheu who led the effort with a 19-point, 15-rebound double-double. Only eight of the 15 players coach Gabby Velasco used, however, was able to contribute in the scoring column as they fell for the fifth time in a row.
