Pirates shock Bombers, surge into win column
YOUNG BLOOD. LPU is leaning on many new faces to get them on the winning end of the NCAA 92 Men's Basketball Tournament.

With all thanks to a couple of first-year players, Lyceum of the Philippines University has finally broken into the win column after four tries in the NCAA 92 Men’s Basketball Tournament.

Rookie reinforcement Harry Nzeusseu and new pointman Adrian Alban connived for nine of their team’s last 11 points as the Pirates got the better of favored Jose Rizal University, 69-66, on Friday at the San Juan Arena.

The Heavy Bombers had control for the first three quarters, but only had a two-point advantage entering the fourth. From there, LPU had for themselves a 9-2 push to open the quarter and, all of a sudden, go ahead, 54-49.

JRU got their bearings back and pulled to within one only to witness Alban account for a 10-5 counter – with eight points to go along with one assist – that re-established a 66-60 lead for the Pirates.

Triples from Teytey Teodoro and Jordan dela Paz allowed the Bombers to keep threatening at 66-68, but Nzeusseu made good on both his free throws to seal the deal on win number one for LPU. “This is a testament that if we just play together, we can overcome anything,” a proud coach Topex Robinson expressed.

The rookie reinforcement from Cameroon posted a 24-point, 21-rebound double-double while the newbie right from Team B scattered 19 points to make up for the absence of better known names like Joseph Gabayni and Jebb Bulawan – both sidelined by injuries.

Meanwhile, JRU continued their disappointing start to the season and now stand at 1-3.
