INSPIRED PLAY. Felix Apreku is playing some of the best basketball in his career and much of it has to do with his significant other.
Defending champion Colegio de San Juan de Letran is a “no superstar team.”
With all due respect to Rey Nambatac, it was head coach Jeff Napa who said so himself.
As such, without anyone giving much attention, fourth-year player Felix Apreku is actually having quite the strong start to the season.
The Filipino-Ghanian is only scoring five points per game, but he’s pulling down 11 rebounds and actively defending for an entire 29 minutes.
Apreku collared a career-best 17 rebounds up against the tall trees like Allen Enriquez, Lervin Flores, and Dioncee Holts of Arellano University last Thursday. His untiring effort even made Napa express, “Siya yung pinaka-outstanding sa team talaga. Hindi sa offense e.”
He then continued, “Yung intangibles niya, yun yung hinahanap ng team talaga.”
As it turns out, along with the desire to defend their title, the 24-year-old is getting for himself added motivation from his significant other. “Nag-double effort din talaga ako. Inspired lang kasi dumating na yung inspiration ko,” he shared.
The Knights’ undersized forward then shared that, not too long before this week, his significant other went to Palawan as the two of them left matters complicated between them. “Nag-break kami dahil malayo,” he said.
Once his significant other returned to Manila, however, Apreku gladly narrated that they worked things out. “Ngayon, medyo okay na. Dahil dun, na-inspire talaga ako,” he said.
