Knights rush through Stags behind Nambatac’s 40
LOOK OUT BELOW. Rey Nambatac erupted for a career-best 40 points just three weeks after setting his personal record at 33.

It was only three weeks ago when Rey Nambatac turned in the best numbers of his playing career and it was only four days ago when Mcjour Luib shocked just about everyone with his newfound shooting stroke.

Nonetheless, the Colegio de San Juan de Letran backcourt outdid their career performances on Tuesday at the San Juan Arena.

Nambatac exploded for a career-high 40 points while Luib scored all but three of his 12 points in the last four minutes and the Knights blitzed San Sebastian College-Recoletos, 90-77, for their fourth consecutive victory in the NCAA 92 Men’s Basketball Tournament.

Intramuros fourth-year main man made good on 54 percent of his shots for the best offensive output of his playing career – both Seniors and Juniors where he won MVP. He also pulled down 10 rebounds for a monster double-double.

Still, the Golden Stags were keeping themselves in the game and only trailed, 67-71, before Nambatac’s triple ignited a 16-7 blast that pushed Letran in front, 87-74.

During the pivotal push, Luib also drilled three triples. “Mr. Intangibles” is now nine-for-13 from distance in his last two outings.

JP Calvo impressed as well with 10 points, eight assists, and five rebounds as the Knights climbed to solo third at 4-1. However, coach Jeff Napa reminded everybody that this means nothing yet as he said, “Wala pa naman kaming naa-achieve.”

On the other hand, San Sebastian lost for the third time in a row following a tournament-opening win. Regile Ilagan again bannered them with 23 points.
