Tankoua makes sure San Beda stays perfect
ONLY ONE. Donald Tankoua outplayed both Bright Akhuetie and Prince Eze as San Beda remained the only undefeated team in the league.

Pitted against two of the best reinforcements in the 92nd Season of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, Donald Tankoua proved that he’s no slouch himself.

The Cameroonian posted a 20-point, 10-rebound and did the heavy lifting in San Beda College’s 88-70 triumph over University of Perpetual Help on Tuesday at the San Juan Arena.

With their fifth win in a row, the reigning runners-up stand alone atop the leaderboard and are the only undefeated team in the tournament.

Perpetual was keeping close for all but the first quarter as the Red Lions dominated the middle quarters, 40-27, to take a 65-49 lead.

The middle of the final frame was the last time the Altas threatened as they decreased their deficit to 59-72. AC Soberano put the game out of reach, however, with his back-to-back bombs fronting a 10-5 blast that re-established an 82-64 advantage in favor of San Beda.

Tankoua outperformed both Bright Akhuetie and Prince Eze who only merged for 15 points and 10 rebounds. Nothing but satisfied of his effort, a proud coach Jamike Jarin said, “I have to give credit to Donald. I told him he had to outplay at least one of them for us to have a chance and he outplayed both of them.”

Soberano and Robert Bolick contributed 15 and 12 points, respectively, as the Lions improved to a league-best 5-0.

For Perpetual, it was Gab Dagangon who showed the way with 14 points and eight rebounds. Sorely missing production from their reinforcements, however, they dropped to 2-2.
