COLOR. Four teams are all tangled up for the spot behind top three teams Arellano, San Beda, and Malayan.
SAN BEDA 5-0
SAN SEBASTIAN 0-6
Things are getting interesting in the 92nd Season of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament – especially among teams trailing the top three in the standings.
Lyceum of the Philippines University made it happen on Thursday at the San Juan Arena after they took down erstwhile fourth-place College of St. Benilde-La Salle Greenhills, 82-77.
Mclaude Guadana played big with 16 points and seven rebounds and the Junior Pirates rode a 12-2 third quarter surge to secure their third win in six games while also sending the Junior Blazers to the same standing.
The contest was close from the start until CSB-LSGH finally looked like they were taking control in getting in front by five midway through the third. However, the Junior Pirates quickly countered behind Guadana and pulled off a 12-2 run that gave them a 64-59 lead.
Still, the Junior Blazers threatened at 77-78 with 32.6 ticks on the clock only to see Guadana and Junjun Cecilio make good on all four of their free throws to put the game out of reach.
With the same record as LPU and CSB-LSGH are Colegio de San Juan de Letran and University of Perpetual Help – meaning there is a four-team logjam for fourth. “We really needed a win. We wanted to get into the top four, that’s the goal this year,” a satisfied coach LA Mumar said.
Meanwhile, Jose Rizal High School piled onto the woes of Emilio Aguinaldo High School via an 85-67 victory.
Toby Agustin posted a 26-point, 15-rebound double-double to help the Light Bombers rise to 2-4. On the other hand, the Brigadiers remain winless through six tries.
