REPRESENT. Ian Alban is here to make a name for himself and for Tondo, Manila.
Paul Lee, a San Sebastian College-Recoletos Staglet and a University of the East Red Warrior, was at the San Juan Arena on Thursday when Lyceum of the Philippines University faced off against College of St. Benilde.
Why, you may ask? It was all because of little-known Ian Alban.
Much like the current Rain or Shine franchise player, the first-year Pirate is a baller bred from Tondo, Manila. And as he narrated to reporters, he invited the “Angas ng Tondo” to come and watch.
Lee was even supposed to be present when LPU met Jose Rizal University last Friday, but had to reschedule because the Elasto Painters also had a game on the same day.
Once “The Lethal Weapon” was at the venue, Alban admitted that he went all out to impress him. “Kanina, na-pressure ako kasi siyempre Paul Lee. Sabi ko, mahigitan ko sana yung nagawa ko against JRU,” he said.
He then continued, “Thankful naman ako kay God na nagawa ko.”
Indeed, the 20-year-old one-upped his 19-point performance against the Heavy Bombers with 21 points this time around.
Asked if it took much to convince the PBA star to come and watch, Alban answered, “’Di naman. Sobrang down-to-earth kasi talaga ni kuya Paul.”
Now he’s making a name for himself, the Pirate pointman said Lee’s advice for him couldn’t be any more helpful. “Sabi niya, hardwork lang and stay humble. Tapos i-represent namin yung Tondo,” he said.
And could he be the heir apparent to be “Angas ng Tondo?” Alban responded, “Sana. Siguro makukuha ko yun kung magsisipag ako at ‘di ako makukuntento sa linalaro ko ngayon.”
