Do-it-all Dela Torre stays as NCAA Jrs. Player of the Week
HERE TO STAY. It's no coincidence that Arellano has risen as one of the championship contenders at the same time Guilmer Dela Torre has emerged as one of the stars in the NCAA Juniors Basketball Tournament.
The heavyweight bout between erstwhile undefeated teams Arellano High School and Malayan Institute of Technology last Tuesday turned out to be a mismatch.
Rookie of the Year Lars Sunga fueled the decisive run in the final frame, but it was Guilmer Dela Torre’s activity from start to finish that allowed the Braves to be in control from start to finish.
The graduating guard was all over the floor and wound up with 15 points, 13 rebounds, five assists, and two steals as Arellano remained unblemished while also regaining possession of solo first.
Leading Arellano to their best-ever start now at 6-0, Dela Torre has once again been recognized as the NCAA Juniors Player of the Week for July 17-23 – his second straight week as top individual performer after seizing the inaugural plum last Saturday.
More than personal recognition, however, Arellano’s main man has his sights set on glory for his school. “Ang tinitignan namin talaga, makabalik sa Finals,” he shared.
Dela Torre bested San Beda High School’s Sam Abu Hijleh and Lyceum of the Philippines University’s Mclaude Guadana for the weekly citation.
