BACK-TO-BACK. Bright Akhuetie and Perpetual are now on a two-game winning streak after making quick work of hapless CSB.
Bright Akhuetie and University of Perpetual Help weren’t going to let themselves turn in a letdown following their breakthrough win in the NCAA 92 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
On a morale-high after just having downed the defending champions, the Altas kept rolling with a 70-55 rout of hapless College of St. Benilde on Tuesday at the San Juan Arena.
Perpetual was never threatened and only trailed for a short while early on.
Still, the game was within reach for the Blazers who were only chasing down an eight-point deficit at halftime before Akhuetie ignited a 17-5 blast that put the Altas on top by their biggest margin at 20, 49-29. From there, the lead would not come down to single-digits.
Perpetual dominated several departments, including inside points, 40-26, and free throws made, 23-6. Leading that effort was Akhuetie who netted 21 points, nine rebounds, and four blocks.
Even with back-to-back wins that raises their record to 4-2, however, coach Jimwell Gican said his team still needs to work on quite a few things. “Hindi nga (easy win) e. Maganda ang depensa, pero ang opensa naman ngayon,” he said.
He then continued, “Yun talaga ini-improve namin ngayon.”
On the other hand, another loss again sends CSB to their worst start in 12 years. Now at 0-7, they clearly need much more help with Fons Saavedra the lone player in double-digits with 15 points.
