Aside from Mahindra, ‘The Manny Effect’ worked on Letran too

NIGHT OF CHAMPION. The Letran coaching staff got inspiration from Manny Pacquiao the night before their supposed bounce back game against JRU.
It wasn’t only PBA-pacesetting Mahindra who received a big boost from People’s Champ Manny Pacquiao before a big game.
As it turns out, right after the Enforcer registered their best start in franchise history at the expense of defending champion San Miguel, the new senator then got together with the team he oversaw onto a title a season ago.
According to Colegio de San Juan de Letran coach Jeff Napa, he and his staff had dinner with Pacquiao last Wednesday.
This, after the eight-division boxing world champion made his first appearance in the 2016 Governor’s Cup as Mahindra mentor.
Asked what they talked about, Napa responded, “Sabi lang niya, all throughout, 110 percent ang suporta niya.”
He then continued, “Sobrang busy lang niya kaya hindi siya nakakapanood. Pero sabi naman niya he’ll finda way para makapanood – mambubulaga na lang daw siya sa mga bata.”
The Knights themselves weren’t at the dinner because it went on way past their bedtime. As Mcjour Luib shared, “Si coach lang kasi late na tapos may game kami. Nag-bonding na lang kami sa dorm, nag-JCo, nag-DoTA, nanood ng movie.”
Still, the Letran mentor believed the mere fact that Pacquiao re-stressed his support for them was more than enough morale boost. “Siyempre iba yun, Manny Pacquiao na yun. Very talented si boss Manny kaya ang daming nag-aadmire sa kanya at ang team namin, nilu-look up siya sa accomplishments niya,” he said.
