NOW YOU KNOW. Robert Bolick showcased the other aspects of his game as San Beda remained the lone undefeated team in the tournament.
Primarily known as a defensive-stopper, Robert Bolick showed off he can also do the other things pretty well on Tuesday at the San Juan Arena.
Turning in his best game by far in the 92nd Season of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, the veteran guard nearly had a triple-double as San Beda topped fellow contender Mapua Institute of Technology, 85-74.
Outscored in the opening period, the Red Lions rode the still scorching hands of Davon Potts to dominate the middle quarters, 51-31. Their lead reached as high as 20, 62-42, near the middle of the third period before the Cardinals regrouped and rallied to only 74-80 inside the last two minutes.
Mapua had a chance to get even closer following another defensive stop only to see Allwell Oraeme’s pass go too strong and sail out of bounds. San Beda then took full advantage of their own chance as Bolick’s long two coupled by Potts’ swishing trey put the game out of reach.
Potts led the Lions in scoring once more, this time with 25 points built on six threes while Bolick wound up with a near triple-double of 10 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists. Javee Mocon also posted a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double to let San Beda remain the class of the league with an immaculate 7-0 record.
However, coach Jamike Jarin put the brakes on any thoughts on them being the frontrunners in saying, “Again, I will say the same thing. This doesn’t mean anything.”
He then continued, “I always tell these young men, let’s just keep getting better and better.”
On the other hand, the Cardinals dropped just their second game out of seven despite the best efforts of Oraeme who pounded in 21 points and 20 rebounds. They now share the second spot with defending champion Colegio de San Juan de Letran.
