ALL BUSINESS. Bright Akhuetie and the rest of Perpetual took no time in getting to work against dangerous EAC.
Just like that, University of Perpetual Help is the hottest team in the NCAA 92 Men’s Basketball Tournament – after still perfect San Beda College, of course.
Doing nothing fancy at all on Tuesday at the San Juan Arena, the Altas just took care of business against Emilio Aguinaldo College from start to finish in a 70-53 decision, their fourth consecutive victory in the tournament.
Bright Akhuetie won the tip-off and imposed his will from the start as the Altas raced to a 9-0 lead.
The Generals could only come as close as 49-58 inside the last four minutes, but were sent away by Perpetual’s 12-4 run to wrap up their continued winning streak.
Akhuetie finished with 19 points, 12 rebounds, and two blocks as the Altas rose to solo second at 6-2. “Credit to the players kasi pinaghirapan nila ito,” coach Jimwell Gican expressed in his post-game conference.
Gab Dagangon added 15 points of his own, but it was clearly a stingy defense that stymied their opponents into ghastly 23 percent shooting that won the game for Perpetual. Stating the obvious, Gican said, “At least, gumagana talaga depensa namin.”
On the other hand, EAC continued to miss out on a winning streak and fell to 2-6. Jorem Morada scored 15 points for them, but he found no help from Francis Munsayac and Igee King who were a combined 1-of-20 from the field.
