GOLDEN STAG DOWN. Teytey Teodoro's high-arching triple in the last minute shot down San Sebastian for good.

With Jose Rizal University desperately needing a win, the inside-outside connection of Abdel Poutouochi and Teytey Teodoro finally went online in the 92nd Season of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

The in-and-out tandem outscored all of San Sebastian College-Recoletos in the last two minutes and granted the Heavy Bombers a much-needed 68-62 win at the San Juan Arena, Tuesday.

Behind by as much as 12 early and six at the half, the Bombers finally got into groove and stormed back to take a 50-47 advantage heading into the final frame. From there, the lead went back and forth between the two teams.

The Golden Stags managed to nudge ahead by one with 2:14 remaining courtesy of charities from Ryan Costelo before Poutouochi countered with his own two free throws to put JRU back on top. Following a defensive stop, Teodoro added to their advantage with a high-arching triple that widened the gap to 65-62 with 22 seconds to go.

San Sebastian would be unable to add any more to their tally as Gio Lasquety and MJ Dela Virgen made good on three shots from the stripe. In all, Teodoro and Poutouochi went on a combined 7-3 run to close out the Bombers return to the winners’ circle with a 3-4 record.

Contrary to character, coach Vergel Meneses chose to see the silver linings in their current sixth-place standing. “Okay na run yung number six instead of number nine or 10,” he expressed.

Teodoro was the high-man with 18 points while Poutouochi ended up with nine points and eight rebounds. Meneses is hoping their game continues to pick up as he said, “I hope we make a run dito sa remaining games namin and then second round.”

On the other hand, the Stags lost for the seventh time in a row coming from a tournament-opening win despite the best efforts of Costelo who scored 18.
