Streaking Altas ground Cardinals to get solo second

Even the reigning NCAA Most Valuable Player can't stop the rampaging Perpetual Help.
The Altas stretched their winning streak to five games after an impressive 71-51 rout of the Mapua Cardinals Thursday in the Season 92 men's basketball tournament at the San Juan Arena.
Perpetual got the hold of solo second place for now after finishing its first round with a 7-2 record.
The Altas set their foundation on defense, holding Mapua to only eight pounts in the first quarter to get a leg up on the Cardinals.
Perpetual then held it steady throughout the game before a late flurry in the fourth finally knocked out Mapua.
As an exclamation point for the win, Bright Akhuetie threw down one of his signature tomahawk jams the moment Allwell Oraeme was sent to the bench, giving the Altas a 68-48 lead with 2:20 to go.
"Nagbunga yung paghihirap namin tsaka yung mga sakripisyo namin but yun nga wala kaming luxury na mag-celebrate pa because its first round," coach Jimwell Gican said.
"Matinding labanan ito pagdating sa second round," he added.
Gab Dagangon had one of his finest games of the season, finishing with a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds.
Akhuetie also got hos double-double of 11 markers and 12 boards.
Mapua, still missing CJ Isit to injury, dropped its second game in a row for a 5-3 record.
Darell Menina was the lone double digit scorer for the Cardinals with 13 points while Oraeme was completely shut down and only got 6 points and 13 rebounds.
