Bulawan injury puts Dunk Contest title up for grabs
PUT ON A SHOW. Yankie Haruna and Lervin Flores, among others, are set to show off their hops in the Slam Dunk Contest in the NCAA All-Star.

“Wala na. Ni-give up ko na yun.”

This is what Jebb Bulawan answered when asked if he would still be able to defend his championship in the Dunk Contest in the NCAA 92 All-Star on August 12 at the San Juan Arena.

The Lyceum of the Philippines University forward dislocated his right shoulder nearly a month ago and will be forced to sit out the annual festivities as he continues to recover.

As such, the field for the Dunk Contest just became wide open.

Looking to break through are last year’s runner-up Yankie Haruna from College of St. Benilde, Lervin Flores from Arellano University, and Sidney Onwubere from Emilio Aguinaldo College.

Considered a darkhorse in the competition is San Beda College Team B player Eugene Toba who stands 6-foot 10-inches tall.

Other contestants are Jose Rizal University’s Kim Aurin, Colegio de San Juan de Letran’s Renato Ular, Lyceum of the Philippines University’s Jaycee Marcelino, University of Perpetual Help’s Rommel Mangalino, and San Sebastian College-Recoletos’ Allyn Bulanadi.

Meanwhile, the first-ever Skills Challenge championship will also be on the line.

Vying for the win are Kraniel Villoria (Arellano), Franz Pasamente (CSB), Raymund Pascua (EAC), MJ Dela Virgen (JRU), Matthew Bernabe (Letran), Ian Alban (LPU), Almel Orquina (Mapua), Flash Sadiwa (Perpetual), Radge Tongco (San Beda), and Ryan Costelo (San Sebastian).

Catch the NCAA Season 92 All-Star Game and side events on August 12, Friday, 1 pm LIVE on ABS-CBN Sports+Action channel 23, ABS-CBN Sports+Action HD channel 166 and via livestream on sports.abs-cbn.com/livestream/ncaa
