WHEELIN' AND DEALIN'. Arellano stands at the second-spot after their fourth consecutive victory.
Hitting a bump on the road early in the 92nd Season of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, Arellano University has now boosted all the way through a share of second-place.
Jiovani Jalalon was in total control from start to finish as the Chiefs rolled over Jose Rizal University, 89-69, on Friday at the San Juan Arena and rolled onto a fourth consecutive victory.
Jalalon scattered 23 points to go along with seven assists and four rebounds in the wire-to-wire win. Lervin Flores added 12 points and eight rebounds to help Arellano improve to 6-3.
“The Bus Driver” turned the ball over six times, but it didn’t matter as their defense suffocated Teytey Teodoro and Paolo Pontejos. “The Blast Brothers” only mustered a combined for eight points in three-of-19 shooting.
“Maganda yung defense namin kay Teodoro at Pontejos. Na-limit namin yung touches nila,” a satisfied coach Jerry Codinera said in his post-game conference.
It wasn’t the Heavy Bomber backcourt who struggled, however, and, as a team, they only shot 38 percent from the field.
Abdel Poutouochi was the lone bright spot for JRU with 15 points. Without a doubt, that was far from enough, however, and they dropped to 3-5.
