HOLD STEADY. No one has figured out San Beda through eight games in the NCAA 92 Men's Basketball Tournament.

Put on the line all game long, San Beda College not only made the grade, but also kept their perfect score in the NCAA 92 Men’s Basketball Tournament.

Taking 37 fouls and making 30 free throws, the Red Lions stood strong against San Sebastian College-Recoletos in an 87-77 decision on Friday at the San Juan Arena.

While getting fouled prevented San Beda from setting up their high-octane offense, they more than made up for it with their bonuses. At the forefront of it all was Donald Tankoua who had 20 points off eight free throws.

At the other end, the Lions protected the paint and only allowed 18 points near the rim.

The Golden Stags kept coming in the contest, however, behind their sniping from distance with a total of 12 triples. Ten points was the closest they came, however, as the Lions’ hands proved steady from the stripe.

Still, San Beda was pretty much cruising to an easy win, up 77-58 inside the last eight minutes, before taking their foot off the gas. This was unacceptable for coach Jamike Jarin who said, “We’re happy because we won, but I’m mad because we’re playing selfish right now.”

He then continued, “Were just lucky that we came out with the win.”

Nonetheless, last year’s runners-up remain unbeaten now through eight games.

On the other hand, San Sebastian were defeated for the eighth straight time following a tournament-opening win. RK Ilagan was their lone bright spot with 20 points.
