WHAT'S MINE IS MINE. Guilmer Dela Torre is continuing his strong season with his third Player of the Week citation.
In the battle between the league-leaders in the 92nd Season of the NCAA Juniors Basketball Tornament, it was Arellano High School who got the better of San Beda High School and stayed spotless in the standings.
Much of that was because in the battle between the league’s two Player of the Week awardees, it was Guilmer dela Torre who bested Sam Abu Hijleh.
Netting 28 points, six rebounds, and two assists, it was the graduating guard who showed the way for the Braves in the nip-and-tuck rivalry game with the Red Cubs.
And when things tightened up, it was still dela Torre who had the answer for Arellano with 10 points in the final frame. This includes an awesome scoop shot and its bonus in the final minutes that gave his team the lead they would keep the rest of the way.
After the scoring machine powered the Braves right through sole possession of the league-lead, all while blemishing the seven-time champions’ record for the first time in the season, it was only rightful that he was recognized as the NCAA Juniors Player of the Week for July 31 to August 6.
It was the third time out of four Dela Torre was hailed as the top individual performer for the week and he is nothing but glad that his efforts have been appreciated. As he put it, “Sobrang masaya lang po ako.”
Still, he promised the Legarda faithful that more was yet to come. “Dahil po sa mga ‘to, mas lalong pag-iigihan ko po.”
Dela Torre edged out fellow Braves Lars Sunga and Aaron Fermin for the weekly plum.
