Arellano High School was on a morale high following a convincing victory versus seven-time champion San Beda High School in the NCAA 92 Juniors Basketball Tournament.

Just waiting in the wings to ambush them, however, was College of St. Benilde-La Salle Greenhills.

The Junior Blazers jumped on and then pounded on the erstwhile league-leading Braves on Monday at the San Juan Arena to claim a wire-to-wire 98-69 win.

The boys from Greenhills owned the paint where they bloodied and bruised their opponents to the tune of a 70-36 advantage in inside points. The eventual 29-point beatdown was Arellano’s first setback in the season.

Spearheading the attack was versatile forward Troy Mallillin who had 24 points. He was flanked by Unique Naboa who towered above all for 20 points and seven rebounds off the bench.

Only 16 of CSB-LSGH’s points came from the perimeter and their interior dominance led to a 53 percent shooting mark.

The Braves didn’t help themselves by turning the ball over 30 times. Guilmer dela Torre topped the scoring column for them with 19 points which proved far from sufficient in preventing their drop to 8-1.

The Junior Blazers’ upset of Arellano means that there will be no sweep of the season.

Meanwhile, Lyceum of the Philippines University blasted San Sebastian College-Recoletos, 84-65, to surge to solo fifth. The Junior Pirates stand at 5-4 while the Staglets stand at 1-8.
