STAND UP. Jiovani Jalalon is all good even after his bad fall.
Jiovani Jalalon went up for a layup in the third quarter and what happened next wasn’t something anybody wanted to see.
The country’s best collegiate guard landed awkwardly and hit his head hard on the San Juan Arena floor on Tuesday. He was slow to get up before heading back to the bench to be attended to by medics.
Recalling what happened then, Jalalon said post-game, “Na-outbalance ako tapos naapakan ko yung paa ko. Ayun, dumiretso ulo ko (sa sahig).”
The Arellano University pointman had his head iced for around 10 minutes before standing back up and being sent right back into action. He showed no signs of being slowed down and wound up with a season-high 33 points to go along with 10 assists.
Apparently, it was all coach Jerry Codinera who sent Jalalon back in to prove all was well. As he put it, “It was a freak accident. Ako na rin and nag-decide to put him back because he was playing well.”
He then continued, while smiling, “Matigas naman ang ulo ni Jiovani e.”
Though he finished the game, the high Chief admitted that what he went through was nonetheless painful. “Sobrang sakit. Parang buong ulo ko ang sakit, pero ‘di ko na inisip kasi iniisip ko yung laro,” he said.
He then continued, “Naghahabol din kami ng panalo kaya yun, nung (okay na kay) coach, okay na rin ako.”
Still, Jalalon said it was more than probable that he would have to get his head checked in the hospital. “May masakit pa rin ng konti e,” he said.
