FIRST OF MANY. Gab Dagangon was the top player in Perpetual's sixth consecutive victory.
Thus far in the NCAA 92 Men’s Basketball Tournament, Gab Dagangon has stood behind the big shadow of Bright Akhuetie.
That all changed on Tuesday at the San Juan Arena as University of Perpetual Help followed the lanky forward’s lead past very game Emilio Aguinaldo College, 71-59, and all the way to a league-leading sixth consecutive victory.
Dagangon tallied a total of 18 points and eight rebounds and also brought the big guns that kept away the dangerous Generals once and for all.
The Altas only led by one early in the final frame before the versatile forward had five points in an 8-1 rush that widened their margin to 58-49. EAC would only come as close as five the rest of the way.
Bright Akhuetie contributed 13 points, all but two coming in the fourth, to go along with 11 rebounds as Perpetual improved to 8-2.
For the Generals, it was Sidney Onwubere and Hamadou Laminou who did the heavy lifting with a combined 31 points and 20 rebounds. Unable to stop Dagangon or Akhuetie, however, they slipped to 3-7.
