MILESTONE. Arellano scored their school's longest-ever winning streak at the expense of luckless CSB.
Arellano University just keeps on rolling now with six consecutive victories in the NCAA 92 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
The Chiefs had no problem whatsoever against College of St. Benilde in a wire-to-wire win, 78-69, on Friday at the San Juan Arena.
Not only did their latest win mark the school’s longest winning streak since entering the league in 2009, it also granted them solo second. “First time na naka-sixth straight. Malaking bagay yun,” a satisfied coach Jerry Codinera said in his post-game conference.
He then continued, “We hope it will fuel yung energy namin in the coming weeks kasi puro heavyweight ang kalaban.”
Of course, Jiovani Jalalon showed the way with 17 points, five assists, and five rebounds. As a team, Arellano moved the ball way better than their opponents and owned a 21-13 advantage in assists.
Still, the Blazers threatened at 62-70 inside the last three minutes until Jalalon and Kent Salado scored four unanswered. “Yung teams, lahat ready. Pinahirapan din kami ng Benilde and they fought until the very end,” Codinera said.
Salado also ended with an all-around 11 points, six assists, and six rebounds while Dioncee Holts pounded in a 12-point, 12-rebound double-double in the Chiefs’ ninth win in 11 games.
For CSB, it was Carlo Young who topped the scoring column with 24 points. Now at 0-11, they match their worst-ever start in school history.
