SHINE DOWN ON ME. Troy Mallillin, the most consistent in the NCAA Juniors thus far, gets some time in the limelight at last.
Last year, Malayan Institute of Technology’s Mike Enriquez flew well under the radar to eventually take away the MVP award from Ricci Rivero of College of St. Benilde-La Salle Greenhills.
Now in the NCAA 92 Men’s Basketball Tournament, the Junior Blazers are seeking to get on the other – and better – end of that occurrence with Troy Mallillin putting up numbers worthy of the top individual player in the league.
That was much evident during the week of August 14 to 20 when the versatile forward delivered yet another double-double and once again brought victory to CSB-LSGH. Pounding in 24 points and 15 rebounds to go along with two blocks, he keyed his squad’s strong start that ended up as an easy win that entrenched them well within the top four.
Mallillin has been the most consistent player in the tournament, but has been overshadowed by his star counterparts from top two teams Arellano High School and San Beda High School.
Now, however, his tireless effort has finally been rewarded with a Player of the Week citation.
For him, he didn’t mind being away from the limelight. “Nagtatrabaho lang po talaga ako,” he said.
The King Junior Blazer bested fellow MVP contender Guilmer dela Torre of Arellano for the weekly honor.
