STARRY PERFORMANCE -- Andrew Estrella blasted all of his 12 points in the fourth quarter for Mapua.

Mapua guard Andrew Estrella torched Lyceum of the Philippines in the fourth quarter leading the Cardinals to a 90-75 win Tuesday in the 92nd NCAA seniors basketball competition at The Arena in San Juan.

Scoreless in the first three quarters, Estrella poured all of his 12 points in Mapua’s sizzling 17-3 run to turn a one-point lead four minute into the fourth to a gaping 86-71 advantage with 58.6 seconds left.

“Basta naglaro lang ako at ginawa ko lang ang pinapagawa sa akin ng mga coaches, yun nakatsamba ulit,” said the 23-year-old Estrella, who returned to the main team after being relegated last year to the school’s Team B.

The Cardinals improved to 7-4 win-loss record to bounce back from their setback in the previous game against the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers last week.

Reigning rookie-MVP Allwell Oraeme finished with a double-double of 27 points on an 11-of-20 field goal shooting and grabbed 25 rebounds for Mapua. CJ Isit had 19 markers while Laurenz Victoria had 15 for the Cardinals.

“We really needed this win for our confidence and to get our hopes for the Final Four. So this is what we’ve been looking for,” said Oraeme, who was called for a technical foul for second motion after absorbing a hit in the groin from Jesper Ayaay with 1:34 left.

Mapua broke open a close 69-68 game with 5:37 remaining in the payoff period with a basket from Estrella opening the game-deciding blast he capped with a highlight-reel side-step reverse layup in traffic with under a minute left in the game.

The Cardinals snapped their Intramuros neighbor’s two-game winning streak was snapped to slide back to 5-6 record.

Wilson Baltazar scored 17, Shaq Alanes got 11 while Paul Soliman and Ayaay posted 10 markers each for the Pirates.
