FLIGHT CONTROL. Paolo Pontejos and Teytey Teodoro had no trouble taking and making shots over the defense of woeful CSB.

With pilots Paolo Pontejos and Teytey Teodoro back online, Jose Rizal University is all set to take off once more in the 92nd Season of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament

“The Blast Brothers” connived for 25 points to gun down woeful College of St. Benilde, 71-63, and make their way back into the win column on Friday at the San Juan Arena.

Pontejos stroked the nets from the start and already had 11 points at the half. Teodoro then caught fire out of the dugout and poured in eight points in the last two quarters to make sure JRU rose to 8-6 in the standings.

In all, the Bombers shot 49 percent as a team and toyed with the Blazers’ defense. The sweet shooting was more than enough to keep them within striking distance of 8-5 and fourth-running Mapua Institute of Technology.

Keeping his wards’ focus on making another late run for the Final Four, coach Vergel Meneses expressed, “One game at a time lang. we have to win four more.”

Still, the contest was close and CSB was only chasing down a five-point deficit at the half until Teodoro spearheaded a 16-3 rampage that put the Bombers way ahead, 54-36.

The Blazers last threatened at 63-71 inside the last minute, but by then, there wasn’t enough time for their last-ditch effort.

Cameroonian Abdel Poutouochi chipped in 14 points, seven rebounds, and two steals to help JRU send CSB into yet another new low with 14 losses in a row to start the season.

Yankie Haruna led the way for the winless Blazers with 14 points.
