NCAA rejects JRU bid for replay of ‘under protest’ game
NO GO. JRU's protest of their game against EAC was denied.

Jose Rizal University claimed perhaps their biggest win in recent memory after wrapping up an elimination round sweep of modern-day dynasty San Beda College.

However, they also took a loss – albeit outside the playing court.

The NCAA on Tuesday denied the Heavy Bombers’ protest of their defeat to Emilio Aguinaldo College last Tuesday. This was confirmed by management committee chair Mari Lacson.

A week ago, the Generals got a much-needed victory after referees waived off potential game-tying free throws by JRU’s Teytey Teodoro. During that sequence, Teodoro was fouled while attempting a triple.

After reviews, however, game officials decided that the foul was whistled after time expired. EAC escaped with the win, but Bombers’ captain Jordan Dela Paz signed the official stat sheet putting the game under protest.

After a week of internal deliberation, the league upheld the decision of its referees. As such, there will not be replay of the EAC-JRU matchup.

For their part, Bombers’ board representative Paul Supan said they will still discuss whether or not they will raise the matter to the policy board.
