San Beda High School reinforced their place alone atop the leaderboard in the NCAA 92 Juniors Basketball Tournament and did it all on the back of its ever-reliable team captain.

Sam Abu Hijleh pounded in 12 of his 22 points in the final frame and stood as the immovable object as the Red Cubs fended off archrival Colegio de San Juan de Letran, 96-83, on Thursday at the San Juan Arena.

San Beda fired a 27-point opening salvo, but let the Squires hang around up until the final frame. It was there that their team captain put them on their shoulders and showed the way to their league-leading 14th win in 15 games.

Abu Hijleh also collared five rebounds while Josh Tagala and Carlo Obenza added 12 and 11 points, respectively, for the Cubs who are rolling as they head into matchups with fellow contenders College of St. Benilde-La Salle Greenhills and Arellano High School.

Meanwhile, the Junior Blazers also gained some more momentum of their own after blowing away Lyceum of the Philippines University, 85-72.

Unique Naboa scattered a career-high 25 points to go along with six assists, and four rebounds to power CSB-LSGH onto a 12-3 standing. This was a much-needed win as they go into a killer stretch facing off against Arellano, San Beda, and Malayan Institute of Technology.

Following their respective losses, LPU fell to 7-8 and Letran dropped to 6-9.
