ARRIVAL. Evan Nelle's breakout game was all he needed to wrap up his first Player of the Week plum.
Sans Evan Nelle, San Beda High School has already proven to be more than capable of claiming what would be a historic eight-peat in the NCAA 92 Juniors Basketball Tournament.
Imagine how even more capable they could be with the second-year sharpshooter in tow.
We don’t have to imagine anymore as Nelle has finally woken up from his slumber in pouring in 11 of his 27 points in the final frame to make sure the Red Cubs prevailed over streaking College of St. Benilde-La Salle Greenhills last Friday. He also added four assists and three rebounds just for good measure.
This, coming on the heels of a 14-point, three-rebound, and two-assist performance against Emilio Aguinaldo College last Monday.
With averages of 20.5 points, three assists, and three rebounds through the week, the wiry guard has now come back with a vengeance from a dismal first round where he averaged 7.9 points in paltry 34 percent shooting.
Now wide awake, Nelle is standing up in the season as the latest NCAA Juniors Player of the Week for September 11 to 17.
Nothing but glad to finally be back on track, the San Beda player said, “Everything is such a blessing especially after all my bad games.”
Still, Nelle promised this was only the first step. “I can’t stop working after one good game with the playoffs coming up. I have to work even harder,” he said.
