San Beda's Juniors dynasty lives... for now.
Malayan might want to reschedule that championship parade.
Seven-time defending champion San Beda High School extended the Finals of the NCAA Season 92 Juniors Basketball Tournament Tuesday after scoring a mighty 81-78 Game 2 win over Malayan High School of Science at the MOA Arena.
The Red Cubs came all the way back from a 12-point deficit to steal the win from the Red Robins, tying the best-of-three series at one apiece.
Facing elimination, San Beda unloaded a 32-point third quarter to completely turn Game 2 around, bouncing back from an embarassing 64-83 blowout in the series opener.
"Nung first half nangapa kami eh, diniin lang namin nung second half," head coach JB Sison said.
San Beda's reign appeared to be in shambles after Mapua took a 75-68 lead in the middle of the fourth quarter.
However, the Red Cubs showed some major championship exposure and finally took the lead, 79-78, in the last 34.2 seconds after a Carlo Obenza layup.
"Buti na lang yung start namin nung third naka-bwelo kami. We made a game out of it," Sison added.
Obenza led the Red Cubs with 19 points off the bench while Robi Nayve added 14.
Romuel Junsay paced the Red Robins with a game-high 23 but it was not enough to give Malayan its first NCAA title since 2000.
Game 3 is set for Friday either at the MOA Arena or at the San Juan Arena.
