San Sebastian College stakes its unbeaten record as the Lady Stags try to move a step closer to an elimination round sweep and an outright pass to the Finals in a clash with the desperate Lyceum of the Philippines University Lady Pirates Monday in the 92nd NCAA women’s volleyball competition at The Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Stags, who turned back the Perpetual Help Lady Altas, 25-22, 25-13, 25-13, last January 11 for their seventh straight win, shoot for win No. 8 in their 12:30 p.m. duel.
A victory will put SSC-R to just a win away from clinching a spot in the Finals with a thrice-to-beat edge. The Lady Stags will close the elims on Wednesday in a rematch against defending champion College of St. Benilde.
LPU, for its part, is coming off two straight defeats to Perpetual Help, 21-25, 27-29, 23-25, and semis-bound Arellano University, 23-25, 23-25, 20-25, to fall to 5-3 win-loss record tied with idle Perpetual Help.
The Lady Pirates are on the brink of elimination and are desperate for a win that will give them a playoff for the last two Final Four slots.
SSC-R head coach Roger Gorayeb is wary that LPU will now put all their cards out to stay alive.
"Mas mahirap kalaban ang team na may hinahabol. Hindi kami pwedeng mag-relax dito kasi kami rin may hinahabol," said Gorayeb.
In the other women’s game, Letran and Emilio Aguinaldo College, tied at 1-7, look to end their season on a high note at the 11:00 a.m. match.
In the men’s division, eliminated teams EAC (0-8) and Letran (2-6) square off at 9:30 a.m. while SSC-R (3-4) and LPU (3-5) faceoff at 2:00 p.m.
In juniors play, LPU guns for a sweep and an outright finals appearance as it tackles an already ousted SSC-R at 3:30 p.m. EAC and Letran battle at 8:00 a.m.
