Gusto ko mapanot kapag di kami nag-champion -- Soltones

For Grethcel Soltones this is her last chance to deliver a title for San Sebastian College.
Grethcel Soltones and San Sebastian College are again in the Finals.
An outright passage to the championship round just like last year after sweeping the elimination round.
The Recto-based squad defeated the defending champion College of St. Benilde, 22-25, 25-22, 25-13, 25-14, Wednesday for a pristine 9-0 record in the 92nd NCAA women’s volleyball competition elims at The Arena in San Juan.
Aside from an automatic Finals seat, SSC-R will also be armed with a thrice-to-beat advantage – the same incentive they had against the Lady Blazers a year ago.
But the Lady Stags vowed not to make the same mistakes they did in Season 91.
“Sinabi sa amin ni coach Roger (Gorayeb) na katarantaduhan lang ‘yung maniniwala kami sa thrice-to-beat advantage,” said reigning back-to-back Most Valuable Player Soltones, who scored a season-high 30 points.
And that’s the lesson they learned the hard way when CSB beat them thrice in four games in last season’s finale.
“Totoo kasi wala namang advantage eh. Kasi may advantage din ‘yung kalaban twice-to-beat sila so wala patas lang,” said the graduating player, who is still seeking her first title. “So ‘yung mindset namin dapat hindi ganun kasi baka magre-relax na naman kami hindi naman dapat.”
SSC-R will have a long rest as they will still wait for their Finals opponent.
CSB and San Beda College will start the stepladder semifinals on Friday where the winner will next face the twice-to-beat Arellano University for the right to challenge the Lady Stags.
For Soltones, who won two beach volleyball titles, this is her last chance to get the only thing missing in her colorful collegiate career.
“Kakalimutan ko na ‘tong elimination round. Sa finals (na ang isip ko), na syempre masakit ‘yung apat na taon na hindi nanalo ang saklap nu’n,” she said.
“Gusto ko na mapanot siguro pag hindi namin nagawa (na mag-champion),” added Soltones. “Magpapakamatay ako sa training lalo na sa game basta iniisip ko ngayon nothing to lose na ko.”
