Lady Chiefs dethrone Lady Blazers to advance in the Finals
Jovielyn Prado dropped 17 points to lead Arellano University back in the Finals.

Arellano University got its sweet revenge on College of St. Benilde dragging the Lady Blazers off the throne in a marathon 19-25, 25-23, 19-25, 25-13, 15-9 stepladder semifinals win Friday to advance in the championship round of the 92nd NCAA women’s volleyball competition at The Arena in San Juan.

The Season 90 champions, who won their ninth straighjt match, are back in the championship round to reclaim the title they lost last year when they were booted out by CSB also in the last phase of the stepladder semis. They will take on the thrice-to-beat San Sebastian College on Tuesday.

“Napakahirap ng dinaanan namin ‘yung Benilde talagang binigay nila ‘yung dapat nilang ibigay sa game na to,” said Arellano coach Obet Javier, who is now looking to follow the same feat CSB did last year when the Lady Blazers defeated SSC-R in four games. “Nagpapasalamat din ako sa Benilde kasi pinakita rin nila kung gaano katatag yung team ko pagdating ng ganitong sitwasyon lalo na sa fifth set.”

Jovielyn Prado finished with 17 points including the Finals berth-clinching kill for Arellano while Regine Arocha chipped in 16 points including a huge explosion in the last stretch of the fifth set.

The Lady Chiefs squandered a 5-1 start in the fifth set, giving the Lady Blazers a chance to even the set at 7-all in a CSB run that saw Arellano commit a couple of crucial miscues.

Arellano broke the tie with a two points in a row. CSB scored on the next play only to see the Lady Chiefs wind up with a devastating 6-1 closing run that left the Lady Blazers dejected and drowning in tears.

The Taft-based squad gave away an antrocious 44 points off errors that hastened CSB's downfall.

It was a painful goodbye for Jeanette Panaga, who saw her 22 points go down the drain. Jan Daguil had 13 markers while Angela Encino, Rachel Austerio anmd Ranya Musa all scored 11 points for the Lady Blazers.
