GOT THIS. Andoy Estrella played the part perfectly as the hero for Mapua and the villain for Letran.
Mapua University will have all the bragging rights inside the walls of Intramuros.
And they have no one to thank for it but Andoy Estrella.
Burying a cold, cold dagger right through the heart of neighbor Colegio de San Juan de Letran, the graduating guard won the season’s first Battle of Intramuros for the Cardinals.
The two teams were all even inside the last 30 seconds before Mapua put the ball in the hands of Estrella. Showing no fear whatsoever then, he gladly shared with reporters post-game, “Mataas na talaga kumpyansa ko bago ko itira.”
Indeed, once he was switched up against six-foot-five Jeo Ambohot, the five-foot-10 gunner dribbled his way into a good look and then launched a long-range missile that dropped straight through the net. “Sabi lang ni coach, kunin ko lang yung bola at sa akin na last shot. Kaya basta tinira ko lang tapos na-shoot,” he said.
Without a doubt, head coach Atoy Co was nothing but satisfied as Estrella’s triple proved to be the difference between the two teams.
In all, the Cardinals’ captain fired seven of his 18 points in the last two minutes on top of a total of seven assists and seven steals.
And it was through all his effort that Mapua will now enjoy all the bragging rights inside the walls of Intramuros.
Letran will have to wait until the second round to try and avenge its loss.
