SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY. Visitors today, San Sebastian will play host to JRU on July 27.

San Sebastian College-Recoletos was the very first team to experience being a visiting team in the NCAA 93 Men’s Basketball Tournament.

The Golden Stags travelled to Legarda, Manila to challenge Arellano University on its very home court.

And in the end of their matchup, the visitors were the victors, 65-56.

Of course, head coach Egay Macaraya was nothing but pleased at how it all turned out. “I’m very happy. Maganda naman yung reception, maganda naman yung game,” he answered when asked to react to the very first ever NCAA on Tour.

So pleased was the usually stoic mentor that he expressed his desire to be part of more home-and-away games. “Hopefully, marami pang NCAA on Tour,” he expressed.

Macaraya will get his wish granted two weeks from now when San Sebastian plays host to Jose Rizal University.

And there, the mentor said had one guarantee. “I’m sure the crowd will be very loud and maganda yun dahil amin lahat ang crowd,” he expressed.

Like his counterpart for today, however, Macaraya was quick to admit that playing in front of a home crowd is a double-edged sword. “It could be an advantage to us. It could be a disadvantage in case mawawala ang utak ng ma bata,” he said.

He also pointed out, though, “The good thing is nasubukan na namin. I will just tell the boys to learn from this experience.”
