BACK IN BUSINESS. Javee Mocon made sure San Beda was not going through a losing slide.
San Beda College was all business at the Filoil Flying V Centre, Tuesday.
Still stinging from their first defeat in the NCAA 93 Men’s Basketball Tournament, the Red Lions took out their frustrations College of St. Benilde, 76-52.
Javee Mocon pounded in 12 points to go along with eight rebounds and five assists to lead the defending champions back onto the win column now at 2-1.
The two teams were all even at 21 early in the second before Mocon and Robert Bolick spearheaded San Beda into a 21-9 quarter. “We had a bad start, but our defense led us back and we finished strong,” head coach Boyet Fernandez said in his post-game conference.
The lead would not go down to single-digits and even increased to as much as 29 points, 76-47, late.
Fernandez counted eight players in double-digits as the Red Lions leaned on their trademark team effort to recover from an early-season defeat at the hands of Lyceum of the Philippines University last Friday. “It’s really our character that led us to bounce back,” Fernandez said.
In the end, Robert Bolick only scored nine points, but also had 11 rebounds, six assists, and two steals. “Ginawa ko lang at ng mga teammates ko yung kailangang gawin,” he said.
For the Blazers, Clement Leutcheu was the only one in double-digit scoring with 10 points.
Unable to keep up with their deep and balanced opponents, they fell for the second straight time for an overall standing of 1-2.
