WHAT REMAINS. The whereabouts of Allwell Oraeme continues to be a mystery.
Allwell Oraeme is not in National University – if head coach Atoy Co is to be believed.
“It’s a fake news. It’s a fake news,” the Mapua University mentor said, reacting to reports stating that Oraeme is already in Sampaloc.
Earlier in the week, multiple news sources said the six-foot-10 former Cardinal is now a Bulldog.
According to Co, however, that is not the case. “Actually, honestly, NU is not interested in getting Allwell,” he told reporters.
Pressed for particulars, however, he opted to keep mum. “Hanggang doon lang ang masasabi ko,” he said.
Last April, Oraeme was reported to be out of the Mapua lineup. “Wala nang Oraeme,” Co said then.
Back then, the head coach said the two-time NCAA MVP had expressed his desire to go back home to Nigeria.
Having a hard time finding reason in what Oraeme is saying, however, Co also said, “Kapag umuwi siya, I will see to it na ‘di na siya makakabalik ng Pilipinas. Umuwi siya kung umuwi, pero pipilitin ko sa aking mumunting paraan, ‘di siya makakabalik dito.”
Fast forward four months later and the Cardinals’ mentor said the Nigerian powerhouse remains in Intramuros. Asked about the latter’s whereabouts, the former answered, “Still here, around, but I don’t see him.”
ABS-CBN Sports tried to get in contact with Oraeme as well as NU head coach Jamike Jarin, but both have yet to respond.
