Felled for the first time in the 93rd Season of the NCA Juniors Basketball Tournament, San Beda High School had nothing but getting up and standing up on its mind.

On Friday at the Filoil Flying V Centre, the Red Cubs got up, stood up, and blew up the scoreboard in a 105-69 thrashing of Emilio Aguinaldo College.

Backup guard Luke Sese top-scored with 16 points and all 14 players contributed in the scoring column in their bounce back into a 3-1 standing.

San Beda scored no less than 23 points in all four quarters and even seized a lead of 38 early in the final frame.

The Red Cubs put up 75 shots and made good on 50.7 percent. Of all those makes, 15 came from beyond the arc.

So thorough was their domination that key cogs like Sam Abu Hijleh, Prince Etrata, Germy Mahinay, Evan Nelle, and Josh Tagala didn’t even play more than 16 minutes.

That much was expected after San Beda surrendered a 78-82 decision to rival College of St. Benilde-La Salle Greenhills three days ago. “Ang sama ng talo namin last game e. Nung pinanood ko naman yung tape, ang dami namin talagang lapses,” head coach JB Sison said.

He then continued, “Kaya sabi ko lang sa kanila, kahit ganun, dikit pa rin yung laban. Edi what more kung maganda yung laruin namin?”

With a 36-point rout this time around, however, the runners-up from last season are back on track. “Kailangan namin talagang mag-pile up ng wins kasi nauna na yung Mapua, yung La Salle,” Sison said.

Malayan High School of Science and CSB-LSGH, both 3-0, stand ahead of the Red Cubs in the standings.

Meanwhile, San Sebastian College-Recoletos is no longer winless after dropping an upset ax on Lyceum of the Philippines University, 88-81.

Bryan Pelias came off the bench to score 16 points and led four other teammates in double-digits in their first win after four tries.

The Staglets maximized their size advantage and owned the glass, 54-31.

San Sebastian collared 25 rebounds on the offensive end alone to nearly match the entire output of their opponents.

Unable to see their defensive stops through, the Junior Pirates squandered the 32-point outburst of Vincent Cunanan and slipped to a 1-2 standing.

Meanwhile, Colegio de San Juan de Letran is now on a winning streak after making quick work of Jose Rizal University, 92-79.

Enoch Valdez was a force with 20 points and 15 rebounds and the Squires blitzed onto a 34-13 start. They would not relinquish the lead the rest of the way en route to a 2-1 record.

Their respective losses dropped the Brigadiers to 0-3 and Light Bombers 0-4.
