Before his big basket, Onwubere said a little prayer

I SAY. Apparently, Sidney Onwubere had a little help from a higher being for his big basket.
Sidney Onwubere’s pull-up from the top of the arc was the shot that ultimately put Emilio Aguinaldo College back on track on Tuesday.
Clinging to a one-point lead inside the last two minutes, the double-double machine known more as an inside operator made good on a triple try over the outstretched arms of Mapua University’s JB Raflores.
“Nagpapasalamat lang ako kay Lord na pumasok yun, grabe,” he expressed not long after as the Generals wrapped up a 77-72 victory versus the Cardinals.
As it turns out, Onwubere did have much reason to thank a higher being. “Bago yun, nag-short prayer ako sa loob. Sabi ko, ‘Lord, help us. Sana ibigay niyo sa amin ‘to kais we’ve been working hard for this,’” he shared.
Indeed, the Filipino-Nigerian’s prayers were answered – not just for his shot, but also for jolting some life back into his team’s campaign. “Gustong-gusto naming makapasok sa Final Four and if we want to make it to the Final Four, kailangan naming manalo against those teams na kaya naming manalo,” he said.
Fortunately for the faithful over at San Marcelino, both a higher being and Onwubere’s heart were in EAC’s favor – for today, at the very least. “Iniisip ko nung lamang ang Mapua, hindi pwedeng mangyari ‘to,” he said.
He then continued, “Kasi sinasabi namin na contender kami tapos ganun, lamang yung Mapua. Hindi kami pwedeng matalo.”
Now his prayers have been answered, the Generals’ captain is nothing but determined to lead his team in continuing to improve their 2-2 record. “Sana tuloy-tuloy na ‘to,” he expressed.
