DEFENSE WINS WHAT? LPU proved it has the personnel to stop Kent Salado, widely-regarded as the top guard in the league.
Kent Salado, widely-regarded as the top guard in the league, was shut down by Lyceum of the Philippines University on Tuesday.
The culprits for “The Conductor’s” struggles? Pirate twins Jaycee and Jayvee Marcelino.
With the two energetic defenders hounding him all game long, Salado only had 11 points on 33 percent shooting to go along with four turnovers.
At the end of it all, even the High Chief had to acknowledge the hell of a job the twins did on him. As he put it, “Magaling yung dalawa, magaling dumepensa. Tandem na tandem sila e.”
He then continued, “Kung saan ako pupunta, nandun sila. Hindi ko na nga alam kung sino bumabantay sa akin sa kanilang dalawa.”
According to Jayvee, however, they are nothing special and were just doing their jobs. “Ayun naman trabaho ko. Yung mga kalaban na gumagawa, minsan, sa akin talaga pinapabantay,” he said.
He then continued, “Kung anong pinapatrabaho sa akin, ginagawa ko lang talaga na go hard para ‘di magalit sa akin mga coach.”
Indeed, Jaycee said they were simply following their mentors’ instructions. “Sabi ni coach, bantayan namin, wag pakawalan, asawahin na namin. Pinursige lang namin talagang dumepensa nang dumepensa,” he said.
Still, the Marcelinos said slowing down “The Conductor” was far from easy. “Mahirap talaga kasi ngayon lang namin nakalaban yun. Mahirap talaga siya ma-stop, pero sa akin naman, challenge yun,” Jayvee said.
He also added, “Nag-eenjoy ako kasi yung kilalang player, dinedepensahan ko.”
Fortunately for LPU and their faithful, they have just the personnel to stop Salado. “Suitable sa amin kasi may dalawa kaming Marcelino na makulit. Yung depensa kasi talaga ang focus namin,” CJ Perez said.
