HELP WANTED. Thus far in the NCAA Season 93, Kent Salado is doing his best impression of Russell Westbrook.
Arellano University was dealt a disheartening defeat by Lyceum of the Philippines University on Tuesday.
Kent Salado and his Chiefs had no chance of keeping up with the Pirates who imposed their will from start to finish for a 99-65 decision.
The High Chief was singled out and ultimately shut down by energetic defenders Jaycee and Jayvee Marcelino. In the end, he only had 11 points in 33 percent shooting to go along with four turnovers.
Making things worse, no teammate of his stepped up and Arellano was dragged down to a 2-2 standing.
Pointing out what went wrong, Salado remarked post-game, “Siguro, kailangan lang talagang mag-step up ng mga kasama ko. Pinapasa ko naman e, yun nga lang, ‘di nafi-finish.”
He then continued, “Hindi ko naman kaya mag-isa. Hindi ko naman kaya mag-isa kaya pinapasa ko naman sa kanila.”
Indeed, Zach Nicholls was the only other Chief in double-digits with 12 points. However, he only made good on four-of-11 shots.
Seldom-used Archie Concepcion and Michael Canete was the next ones on the list with nine and seven points, respectively.
Meanwhile, Lervin Flores, also expected to carry more of the scoring load, only had four points on a ghastly 17 percent shooting. “Yung Flores, parang inconsistent pa. Ayun lang masasabi ko,” Salado lamented.
In the end, the Chiefs’ court general had but one plea for his teammates. “Siguro, masasabi ko lang, kulang lang talaga sa teammates ko. Step up lang talaga kailangan,” he said.
