EXPANSION. Javee Mocon proved he can be more than a threat for a points-rebounds double-double.
Proving he can also do what Robert Bolick does, Javee Mocon did it all on Tuesday and almost registered a triple-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists for San Beda College.
And he did that up against archrival Colegio de San Juan de Letran, no less.
While it’s somewhat new to see a Mocon, who has long established himself as a threat for a points-rebounds double-double, do so much more, his stat sheet-stuffing was of no surprise to head coach Boyet Fernandez. “As we all know, Javee will always be there for our team. He’s our glue [guy],” he expressed.
For the fourth-year forward, however, the triple-double is far away from his mind. “Ginagawa ko lang yung always ginagawa ko every game – doing extra passes. Luckily, na-shoot naman nila mga pasa ko,” he said.
Still, it remains a fact that Mocon’s newfound playmaking is a welcome development. Asked about how that came to be, he answered, “Siguro this year, sobrang focused sila kay Robert [Bolick] so I have to make a play. Naka-double team sila kay Robert so ako yung free and when I attack, may ibang libre naman.”
In the end, this development in the other aspects of his game is the 21-year-old’s personal goal this season. “This year, for me, malapit na (matapos collegiate career ko) so every day talaga, I have to make something better for me,” he expressed.
