STING. Rey Nambatac finally looked like Rey Nambatac in front of Letranites inside their own gym.

For two years now, Colegio de San Juan de Letran has been Rey Nambatac’s team.

The graduating guard proved that once again on Thursday inside their own gym in Intramuros, Manila.

Dropping a season-high 31 points, Nambatac showed the way for the Knights in their 92-78 conquest of College of St. Benilde which eventually ended as their first winning streak in the NCAA 93 Men’s Basketball Tournament.

The scoring southpaw was on-point from start to finish and also collected 11 rebounds, five assists, and two steals. “Si Rey naman, never mawawala para sa amin yan,” head coach Jeff Napa said of his prized ward who was at the forefront of their ascent to 3-3.

Of course, Nambatac was there when his team needed him the most and fired seven points in the 11-0 rush that broke open a tied game at 66-all into a 77-66 advantage inside the last seven minutes in favor of the home team.

The Blazers again threatened at 71-77 only to see the Letran captain get a triple and an assist in his team’s 13-5 finishing kick. “Alam ko naman yung Benilde, ‘di basta-basta susuko yan. Team effort lang talaga kaya namin nakuha yung panalo,” Napa said.

Quinto also added 14 points and seven assists while Ambohot posted a 11-point, 12-rebound double-double for the Intramuros-based squad. “Malaking bagay na maraming nag-step up para sa amin kasi everytime na pinapasahan ko sila, 60-40, nakaka-convert sila,” Nambatac said of his support.

For CSB, rookie Unique Naboa impressed with 17 points while sophomore Kendrix Belgica also had a strong showing with 10 points and six assists.

Unable to stop, or even slow down, the lead Knight, however, they fell for the fourth time in a row following a season-opening win.
