Even a bad tummy can’t stop Bolick from making things happen

WORSE THAN A FLU GAME. Robert Bolick battled a bad tummy and still helped San Beda keep streaking.
Robert Bolick only had – for his standards, of course – six points, six rebounds, and five assists in San Beda College’s victory versus Jose Rizal University on Friday.
And yet, head coach Boyet Fernandez was quick to thank their good fortune that their King Lion was even playing. “We’re just lucky because Robert forced himself to play today,” he said.
As it turns out, he, along with three other teammates, were not feeling well. “Robert should not be playing today because he’s sick. He has severe diarrhea and vomiting,” the head coach said.
He wasn’t alone either. As Fernandez shared, “Actually, we have four players who are sick right now. Calvin (Oftana) didn’t play because he’s too lightheaded tapos (JB) Bahio and (Ben) Adamos are in the hospital.”
There was no way the King Lion was missing their game up against dangerous Jose Rizal University, however. “Na-confine sila tapos ako, ‘di nagpa-confine. Umuwi lang ako at nagpahinga,” he said.
That didn’t mean that he was in the right condition to play, though. As he put it, “Masama pa rin pakiramdam ko. Ang sakit pa rin ng tiyan ko.”
He then continued, going into the details, “Tae pa rin ako nang tae. Kahapon nga, 30 times ako tumae.”
And so, proving just how great of a player he is, Bolick still stuffed the stat sheet despite the severe diarrhea and vomiting.
Indeed, through the bad tummy, the competitive fire still burned white-hot for the 20-year-old. “Ayaw ko nga talaga maglaro kasi masakit talaga tiyan ko, pero malakas kasi JRU masyado. Ayaw kong magpatalo,” he said.
He then continued, “Sabi ko kay coach, kahit anong kaya kong ibigay, ibibigay ko. Ayaw ko naman na isang sakit lang, ayaw ko na maglaro.”
Bolick did more than play, however, and remained a key cog in San Beda’s fourth consecutive victory.
Yes, even with severe diarrhea and vomiting.
