COSTLY CONTEST. San Beda won their eighth game in a row, but will have to go without both Robert Bolick and Clint Doliguez for their next assignment.
Robert Bolick and Clint Doliguez were not able to finish San Beda College’s eighth consecutive victory in the NCAA 93 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
They didn’t need to as their team was already way ahead when they were ejected.
At long last, Davon Potts got into his groove and scored a season-high 12 points as the Red Lions outclassed College of St. Benilde, 72-58, on Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
The defending champions got jumped on and found themselves trailing by six, 8-14, in the earlygoing before a triple from Potts detonated a 33-14 blast that took a 41-28 lead for them at the half.
They would not look back the rest of the way.
Bolick yet again played a key role in the rout, flirting with a triple-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists.
Even though they were dominating and up by 14, 71-57, inside the last three minutes, Fernandez still had his big guns out on the floor.
San Beda was about to increase its advantage even more when Carlo Young prevented Bolick from finishing a fastbreak.
The Blazer took the King Lion by the shoulder and held him down all the way to the floor.
The two players then got entangled and Bolick appeared to be forcing to break free until referees and players from both sides finally separated them.
Game officials slapped Young with a disqualifying foul for his apparent takedown as well as Bolick for his apparent second motion. Doliguez also got a disqualifying foul for leaving the bench and entering the playing court during the incident.
Play resumed after a long lull, but the game had long been decided.
And so, the Red Lions remained in solo second with a 9-1 standing.
However, their win also saw the ejection, and therefore automatic suspension, of their man man and rising star.
As per league rules, an ejection merits an automatic one-game suspension that will be served in the succeeding game. As such, Bolick and Doliguez will be unavailable when San Beda takes on Mapua University on Friday.
Having to pick up the slack then will be Potts as well as Javee Mocon who had a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double in this one.
Also going to be shorthanded in their next assignment will be CSB as Young will have to serve a one-game suspension himself.
Clement Leutcheu had 25 points and 15 rebounds in the losing effort that drops them to 2-8.
