AVENGERS. Michael Calisaan more than made up for getting ejected the last time San Sebastian downed EAC.
Michael Calisaan scored 19 points in only three quarters in the first round meeting between San Sebastian College-Recoletos and Emilio Aguinaldo College in the NCAA 93 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
The fourth-year forward again had 19 markers in their second round affair on Friday at the Filoil Flying V Centre to show the Golden Stags the way to another victory versus the Generals, 81-69.
Calisaan found himself incurring two unsportsmanlike fouls and getting ejected in the first round meeting between the two teams.
Still, Baste found a way to win that one, 75-73.
The versatile veteran was back doing his thing in this one and also hauled in five rebounds, one assist, and one steal. “Praise God hindi na-thrown out si Michael kasi malaking factor talaga si Michael,” head coach Egay Macaraya said.
However, the Generals remained right in the thick of things as Irvin Mendoza pulled them to within 65-67 with 3:42 remaining.
That was the closest they would come, however, as San Sebastian’s swarming defense only allowed four points from their opponents the rest of the way. “Siguro, napagod na rin sila. Lahat naman ng ginamit ko, nag-step up sa depensa pero I guess, yung key, napagod sila (EAC) sa last quarter,” Macaraya said.
At the other end, five different Golden Stags connived for a 14-4 run that eventually ended as a bounce back win.
In the end, Calisaan led three other teammates in double-digits with JM Calma pounding in 12 points and Ryan Costelo and Renzo Navarro also adding 11 markers each.
With a 5-5 record, Baste is tied with Colegio de San Juan de Letran for the fourth spot. Right behind them, however, are Arellano University, University of Perpetual Help, and EAC who all hold 4-6 cards.
Francis Munsayac paced the Generals with 14 points, five assists, and four rebounds. They were sorely missing production from Sidney Onwubere, however, as the team captain only had nine points in 17 percent shooting to go along with eight rebounds and six turnovers.
