APOLOGIZE. Jaycee Marcelino was not proud of what he did to Eric Pili.
Lyceum of the Philippines University’s Jaycee Marcelino got another clip for his growing and glowing highlight reel in the NCAA 93 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
The Pirates’ standout rookie saw College of St. Benilde’s Eric Pili right in front of him before sending the ball from right to left.
Before Pili even knew what hit him, Marcelino was already speeding to the ring.
After the game, however, the rookie point guard was not proud of his highlight. “Sorry (to Pili). ‘Di ko naman sinasadya,” he said.
He then continued, “’Di ko alam anong nangyari. Ang bilis niya rin kasi maka-recover sa akin kaya nadulas siya.”
Still, the ankle-breaker was proof of how far Marcelino’s handles have come. “’Di ko naman alam na mangyayari yun. Ayun lang kasi lagi kong ginagawa, pina-practice ko yung dribbling araw-araw kasi ‘di ako marunong,” he said.
As it turns out, the athletic and relentless youngster was not at all confident about his dribbling ability before. “Pagdating ko rito sa Manila, kapag may drills na dribble, kinakabahan na ako kasi ‘di ako marunong,” he shared.
And so, he exerted even more effort to overcome that. “Kaya lagi akong nag-e-extra na dribble-dribble,” he said.
Even so, Marcelino was not proud of his highlight because it came during a game where he only had six points, two rebounds, two assists, and five turnovers. “Kanina, ang pangit ng laro ko. Kapag ganun nangyari, bawi na lang dapat sa next game,” he said.
